A Stable Marriage Needs Balance

By Sanja Delić2 min read

They say love holds a marriage together. I think balance is what keeps it going. Love is a given, but when everyday life gets too thick, it's balance that decides whether two people will hold hands or push each other into a corner.

In a stable marriage, there's no eternal winner. One time you're the one at fault, the next time your wife is right. And vice versa. And it's not about who gets to be "guilty" more often, but about both of you knowing that no fight is the end, just a chance to find a new balance.

Balance means knowing how to give in when your ego is telling you to hit harder. Knowing that the word "sorry" doesn't humiliate you, it makes the relationship stronger. Knowing how to let your partner win the small battles, because you're both on the same team anyway.

But balance doesn't mean keeping quiet or swallowing things. On the contrary, it means the right to your own voice and the right to be heard. It means fairness isn't measured by the rule "the wife is always right" or "the man always has the final say", but by whether you both feel that your truth is heard and valued.

Marriage isn't a courtroom, even though it sometimes feels like one. There's no judge, no jury. Just two people who have to find their own inner justice. Sometimes you'll be the one carrying more of the load, and sometimes she will. And that's okay. Because the goal isn't balance at any cost, but knowing that in the end it will always even out.

In the end, balance is quiet music playing in the background. You don't hear it every day, but when it's gone, you realize how much it mattered.

And so I asked myself: is the secret of a stable marriage in who's right - or in who's ready to take the first step toward balance?
